It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Sometimes, a different colorway is all it takes to elevate your EDC kit or get you interested again in an item you’ve been ignoring or putting off buying for so long. The original Leatherman Raptor has long been regarded by medical and first response personnel as one of the best tools for emergencies. They’ve recently released a couple of fresh new colors to add into the mix, with Red/Black and Yellow/Blue options to add to your emergency or first aid kit.

If you’re unfamiliar, the Leatherman Raptor Rescue is a pair of emergency shears leveled up to their max potential. On its face, the Raptor Rescue is a multi-tool geared for first responders dealing with emergencies. The folding 420HC stainless steel shears can cut through clothing and rough material, swiftly deployed with a snap, and secured with a triangle button lock. The lower blade of the shears features a blunted tip to safely get under medical tape, straps, belts, or other binding materials, even under stress. On its side, there are measurement markings for a 5cm-long ruler.

An integrated ring cutter makes short work of wedding bands, small wires, or anything that might create swelling in appendages by limiting blood flow. There’s also an oxygen tank wrench, further reinforcing the kind of situations this tool was made to handle. If you do find yourself in a circumstance where you need to free someone from a seatbelt, there’s a dedicated strap cutter that’s accessible when the Raptor’s handles are folded up. A carbide glass breaker also resides at the bottom of one of the handles.

One neat inclusion is an injection-molded polymer holster as part of the Raptor package, letting you carry it either folded or fully deployed. On the back of the holster is a MOLLE/PALS-compatible attachment that lets you secure the shears onto your pack or harness of choice, giving you all the options you need for carry or quick access at a moment’s notice.

What we like: The Leatherman Raptor Rescue shears are the best of the best; feature-complete with all of its tools thoughtfully included and implemented for maximum efficiency and effectiveness in an emergency.

What to watch out for: They’re pricey, but for a good reason. They’re also larger than you may expect, but that’s also to accommodate usability even while gloved.

Final verdict: The last shears you ever need to buy.

While many of us put together an everyday carry to prepare us for, well, everyday tasks, it’s easy to forget about emergencies and the unexpected. But even if you do try to prepare for medical emergencies, first aid supplies aren’t exactly the most pocket-friendly. That’s why My Medic offers a variety of pre-made, consolidated first aid kits to keep you and your loved ones prepared this holiday season. These first aid kits were designed by military and medical professionals with EDC in mind to take the guesswork out of assembling your own kit. Each kit is equipped to handle specific use cases and situations, so there’s bound to be one that’s right for you or the people on your holiday shopping list.

Everyday Carry Individual First Aid Kit

If you want a first aid kit that’s rugged and portable enough to carry with the rest of your EDC, the Everyday Carry Kit is for you. Measuring in at 5.25“ x 4.75“ and with a weight of 8.5 oz out of the box, this is My Medic’s most portable kit yet. It’s designed so you can easily attach it to a backpack or a belt loop; and it’s compact enough to fit even inside smaller bags like a sling or a waistpack. And if you do decide to carry it externally, its rubberized exterior offers excellent weather resistance and durability.

The Everyday Carry Kit features a clamshell opening, organized in a vertical manner for quick access. Inside you’ll find 5 select items to tend to some of the most common traumatic injuries you might encounter in your day to day, designed to be used by people with even basic First Aid Training. It’s packed with a Rapid Tourniquet to help stop arterial bleeding, a Quickclot Pack to control traumatic bleeding, two chest seals to treat penetrating injuries to the chest, a pair of disposable gloves, and a handy felt-tip pen.

Trauma First Aid Kit

Designed by both firearms and medical professionals, the TFAK is a great option if you visit the range often, handle firearms in general, or if you want a more comprehensive kit to keep in your car. While still compact at 8“ x 5”, the Trauma First Aid Kit is a bit heftier thanks to its wider selection of life-saving first aid items.

Inside, you’ll find everything that was already mentioned in the Everyday Carry Kit plus dozens of other quality supplies meant to help you deal with more serious wounds. Things like compressed gauzes, pressure bandages, two ZZIP devices for quickly stitching up wounds, a “Super Wash” to help clean wounds or eyes, and even a space blanket for people suffering from hypothermia.

Aside from these materials, you’ll also get the tools to use them properly. Included in the kit are a pair of trauma shears, a penlight, tweezers, and an emergency whistle. All of these items can be neatly organized inside the kit, thanks to multiple elastic bands as well as internal compartments.

SuperSkin Bandage Med Pack

Most likely (and hopefully) traumatic injuries are not everything that you’ll encounter whenever someone around you suffers an injury, and that’s one of the reasons the SuperSkin Bandage Med Pack was created.

Designed as a modular system, Med Packs are meant to fulfill a specific purpose or help you compliment First Aid Kits you might already own. This one in particular is meant to help with things ranging from a minor bleeding all the way up to serious scrapes. Inside you’ll find 10 packs of individual use bandage supplies.

Honoring the Med Pack’s name, most of them include SuperSkin bandages, top of the line bandages designed with flexible materials, super-strong adhesive and even an aloe-infused pad at the center. The rest of the packs include things like a larger 1“x 3“ SuperSkin bandage, gauze, an antiseptic towelette, and antibiotic ointment.

MyFAK First Aid Kit

There’s a reason why this is THE best selling kit from My Medic. Featuring 100+ high-quality first-aid supplies, the My First Aid Kit is one of their most comprehensive offerings, meant for the EDCer that wants to stay prepared for nearly any injury they might encounter.

Inside you’ll find supplies to deal with traumatic injuries, bleeding, burns, sports-related injuries, insect bites, infection, fractures, airway injuries/ailments and all of the tools to help you use them. These medical supplies come in a highly functional bag, featuring a durable construction and a thoughtful design.

The bag measures in at 7.5“ x 6.5” x 5“. It’s made out of CORDURA nylon, known for its ideal balance of durability, abrasion resistance, and weight. A tear-away panel in the back will give you quick access to the contents inside in case of an emergency, while MOLLE straps and velcro panels will provide you with external storage options.

This is a great choice to keep around the house, in the trunk of a car, or in the workshop. Thanks to its large convenient pull handle, it’s an excellent grab-and-go first aid solution.

You never know what situations you’ll get into when you’re on the road, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t stay prepared. And while your regular EDC might cover your bases for some of the things you encounter, driving comes with its own kinds of problems—often when you least expect it and when you’re far from the comfort of home. While you can build out your own survival kit for your car, it might not be the best option to have a comprehensive kit when you often switch cars or are tight on trunk space. Mechanix Wear aims to solve this problem with their Roadside Pit Packs. They’re portable, pre-built kits that you can take with you to get through emergencies that you might encounter while on the road.

You’ll get two options for your Pit Pack: a larger one that measures 14“ tall by 10” wide, and a smaller 12“ by 9” option. Each are packed into their own dedicated bag. On the front and back, you’ll find MOLLE-compatible webbing, so you can attach accessories or attach the bag itself as an expansion. You’ll also find nylon hooks in the back side for more attachment options. For a secure and comfortable carry, you’ll appreciate the top handle and the adjustable straps that come with a plastic buckle closure. It features a clamshell opening for easy loading and unloading of the items in your kit or whatever else you decide to put it. The larger version of the bag comes with three more compartments for extra storage: a smaller front panel, a small quick-access pocket, and a side mesh pocket. It also features an additional side handle for even more carry options. Last but not least, both bags have high visibility zipper pulls for a touch of color.

Inside the bags you’ll find a 10-pack of powder-free Nitrile gloves, perfect for light protection against dirt, grease, oil, and chemicals or for use with a first aid kit. They feature a grippy texture as well so that you always have traction on your tools. There’s also a 4 oz, 80% alcohol hand sanitizer spray for when you’re done getting down and dirty. For working in low-light conditions, a useful Caylum Light Stick will provide you with up to 12 hours of non-electrical light. Adding even more utility, there’s a 3 oz WD-40 Handy Can, which contains a substance that protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything. Finally, you’ll also find a 3-pack of “Hot Hands”, which are small air-activated small bags of heat, they heat up within minutes and provide you with up to 10 hours of heat. These are perfect for keeping you warm during the night or winter times.

The larger bag contains two additional items to add even more functionality to your Pit Pack. You’ll receive a “My Medic Solo First Aid Kit” which is a small, compact kit equipped with hand-picked essential lifesaving supplies. You will also find a Mechanix Wear insulated water bottle. It’s a BPA-free container with a medium capacity and an insulation that will keep your cold liquids chilled.

So, if you want to stay prepared for anything the road might throw at you, and get a pretty nice, nifty bag in the process, consider getting a Roadside Pit Pack. Both sizes are available in either black or a limited-edition bright red. You can get any of them by clicking the link below.

And during this time of crisis they’re offering even more by giving a steep discount on all of their products, along with a special gift for those serving on the front line. It’s a good time to stock up on gear you’ve always wanted, and to help you get started we’ve picked out some of our favorites below.

RUSH 24 Backpack 37L

The RUSH 24 is arguably 5.11’s most popular item, and continues to be an enduring tactical backpack suited for any mission for EDC and beyond. 29 individual compartments cover all your essentials, with a 37-liter clamshell opening main compartment and front admin pocket to organize your EDC. Up top, a fleece-lined stash pocket protects your sunglasses and other fragile items like your phone. Water-resistant 1050D nylon makes the RUSH ready for any environment, and self-repairing YKK zippers ensure your belongings stay secure. Personalizing the RUSH to your exact measurements and EDC contents is also easy thanks to its adjustable compression, shoulder, and sternum straps.

AMPC Pack 16L

If you’re looking for something a bit more compact for quick errands or a way to ease the load on your pockets, the AMPC is one of the latest iterations of 5.11’s daypack design. While it carries the DNA of the RUSH packs that came before it, the 16L AMPC offers a few modern touches, such as its use of HEXGRID webbing on the front and stowable Hypalon straps to keep the bag compact when needed. It’s built tough with a full suite of 420D/500D/1000D CORDURA nylon construction, and is fully expandable with moddable thanks to its compatibility with 5.11 platforms and pouches.

Buy $79.99 ($99.99)

UCR IFAK Pouch

We’ve talked before about building a first aid kit, and the UCR IFAK pouch is a reliable carrier for all your first aid equipment storing needs. And the best part: it works well as an expansion module to MOLLE-compatible web platforms like the rest of 5.11’s bags (or even your vehicle’s headrest). The UCR IFAK is built from the same 1050D nylon as its bigger brothers, with enough space for 1-2 blow out kits and other essentials within its 7″ H x 5″ L x 3″ W capacity.

Buy: $27.99 ($34.99)

These are just a few of our favorite picks from 5.11 Tactical’s entire catalog, which covers your needs from training to travel to footwear.
